New PIQ for Refined Oils – MAPA Ordinance No. 935/2026

On July 14, MAPA Ordinance No. 935/2026 was published, establishing the new identity and quality standard (PIQ) for refined soybean, cottonseed, canola, sunflower, and corn oils.

The new Ordinance repeals the previous regulation (Normative Instruction No. 49/2006) and introduces significant changes. Among the topics regulated by the new standard are:

Specific and detailed rules on classification;

Rules on traceability and liability, including the requirement that labeling contain information on the product’s classification—and product group—; information regarding the product and the party responsible for it; batch identification, which will be the responsibility of the packager; and details of the packaging company or the party responsible for the product;

Changes to the rules on type classification; creation of a single type;

Changes to parameter limits (with different tolerance margins);

New self-monitoring rule (self-classification; company-specific workflow);

Changes to other labeling information; among other changes.

The new standard takes effect 30 days after its publication, and companies will have 18 (eighteen) months to bring their packaging into compliance with the marking or labeling specifications set forth in the new standard.
